Make-up Rant

If you're the type that loves make up, this post is for you.

First of all, I would like to say that I love all different designs and ideas that people use in applying their make up. I have found some really interesting and beautiful looks. Even ones that don't look as pleasing to most, I find them striking. Now to get to the point of this post. Proper application of make up.

I understand that there thousands of looks, some wearable some not. They range from absolutely crazy to so natural you can barely tell that the person is wearing any product. But regardless of the look, the only way to pull anything off is to properly apply the products as to not look like a 5-year-old attacked your face.

So let's hit the most common styles.

Natural-
This is the easiest look, because your features provide a guide to what colors and where they should go. It's your beauty, enhanced. As eyes go, keep things simple and clean. No one's eyes are sparkly naturally, nor do they have bright red lips. However, you can still apply color if it's done correctly. For eyes, opt for a matte shadow instead of a shimmery or frosty one. If you want just a super natural look, stick to browns, blacks and beige. Those are fool-proof and will flatter any skin tone. If you want a hint of color, add a subtle purple or green to the mix, making sure that it is the same finish as the rest of your shadows. One of the things I see so many girls do wrong is they're highlight. They have the placement correct, but it looks so unnatural that you can't help but stare at it. Instead of using a super white shimmery shadow for your highlight, opt for something more subtle. I suggest using a matte shadow in a few shades lighter than your skin tone. The result will be natural and youthful, giving you the appearance of higher and more pronounced brows, naturally.

In terms of skin, nothing should look like a mask. If you have any questions about if you can wear it and get away with it, the answer is 'no'. The finish is really up to the wearer, because different finishes can be helpful or downright awful on varying skin types. An oiler skin should find a matte finish foundation to counteract shine. Whereas a dry skin would benefit from a dewy finish. Also, when picking a foundation keep in mind the look you're going for. If you want a more luminous look, go for something that has light to it. *THE BOTTOM LINE* No matter what look you're trying to recreate, make sure that your foundation matches!! If you can't find something that matches you exactly, don't panic. You can always make a shade lighter or darker by adding another product or added lotion. Regardless, you don't want to look like you're wearing a mask. To prevent this, pull the foundation down your neck to avoid a join at the jawline. If you are trying to add some color, make sure to apply to your ears as well. Different color ears will TOTALLY give the game away.

Blush follows the same rules as foundation. The more subtle, the more natural it will look. If you have a more pink skin, use blush sparingly. It will enhance the pink in your skin. Very unflattering. To those of you who suffer from acne, blush should be used only when you need it. If your blemishes are not covered completely or correctly, a pink blush will enhance the redness.

Lips. This doesn't matter as much for finish. Just don't go too crazy with color.

(If there's anything that I forgot, please tell me.)

Good luck!
